Trivia[]

  • Ninja sword is translated from ninjatō (Japanese: 忍者刀), ninjaken (Japanese: 忍者剣), or shinobigatana (Japanese: 忍刀). Ninjatō are allegedly one of the weapons that ninja of feudal Japan carried. It is also a multi-purpose tool that can be used for climbing, and its saya (sheath) is able to be used as a blowgun or a monocular without magnifying lenses and for eavesdropping.
    • Historically, there is no physical evidence for the existence of this "katana-like short sword legendarily used by ninja" before the 20th century, though it is believed that the designs demonstrated by alleged replicas are based on the design of wakizashi or chokutō or the swords associated with ashigaru, the infantry employed by the samurai class of feudal Japan. Most people misunderstand that ninja frequently used katana or katana-length ninjatō as their primary weapons because of popular cultures. They, however, actually used many peasant-made or small weapons for stealth missions such as kama, shuriken or kunai.
      • Considering its appearance, the Ninja Sword looks more like a longer chokutō than a shorter ninjatō.
